Call me old fashioned and corny, but my emotional connection to watching college football is barely hanging on at this point.

There was a time when you’d say “That’s our guy.”, and you (most of the time) saw his connection to the school.

Now? Just guns for hire. They have no bond with the school, so don’t expect me to have a bond with them (and, by extension, their team).

You are 100% spot on.

I am really surprised more people are not able to comprehend this.

Contrary to popular belief, I don’t love Auburn because of Pat Sullivan, Bo Jackson, Charles Barkley, etc. I love those guys BECAUSE of Auburn.

If they were all just hired guns, I guarantee that my love for those guys would be minimal, if at all.

For anyone that responds to this by saying they’ve been paid in the past, that just proves you don’t get it and probably never will.

Did Texas A&M get guys because they loved A&M or because they were paid under the table?
Scholarships should be 3 year contracts. But a player can transfer and play immediately if the head coach leaves or it’s to a school within driving range if there’s a family sickness ( lawyers can spell that out). Anyone else 1 year sit.
Money can not be offered through any collective. Money has to be negotiated by play and NIL recipient.
Let’s get back to what NIL was intended for….
Players using their likeness to profit on merch, gaming, endorsements.
This should be done through marketing departments at the school ( helps marketing students too) once they are signed to a ( 3 year deal).

100% agree

Couple that with the fact that the Tigers put together the best season of all time right before the bottom fell out, and I have no real "hunger" I guess you would say, to get to the top. Of course I want to see them win every game they play, but it just doesnt mean as much anymore.

I hear ya, it's not the same game we all grew up with unless there are posters here under 20. Having said that, every team has a few players here and there that grew up as fans of the school they committed to, are hard workers and great ambassadors for their school. I think if we focus on those guys and don't worry so much about the Uber talented kid who leaves after one year because he didn't get to start....we'd be much happier. It sucks losing players to other schools, but losing a player simply opens up a roster spot to steal someone else's star player. We just have to face the fact that football at every level has more roster churn than other sports...eligibility at the high school and college levels, free agency and trades in the NFL. Just treat transfers like the incoming Freshman class...new names and faces to learn. By about game 4-5 during the season it won't matter they were playing somewhere else the year before, they will be 100% part of your favorite team.
