Players knew their school's fight songs before NIL and easy portals I will say.

Now they just feel like single year employees that will leave at the drop of a hat.

I think the thing you need to realize is that they leave "at the drop of a hat" these days because they can.

They would have left in previous years if they could have done so without penalty.

I'd think you'd have to go back a half a century or more to get players who were more attached to the University/team than they were to using a college football program as a vehicle to get to the NFL.

Some of you just need to accept that no one cares as much about a fricking school as they do their own future and well being. You don’t either. I was born just off the Alabama campus, raised a Bama fan, dad graduated from Bama, and I was a walk-on there for four years. But if Auburn offered to double my current salary to study Alabama film all day and try to help AU win the Iron Bowl, well, “War Eagle, motherfrickers.”

You also need to accept that you expect way too much out of student-athletes.

You want players who are.,,

1. NFL caliber talents who can create an exciting, high level game.
2. Players who put the school’s interests ahead of their own.
3. Players who are quality students who value a college education.
4. Players who are high character and won’t embarrass the school in spite of having a demeanor that allows them to excel in a violent game.
5. Players who are content with everyone around them making 6-8 figures off of their talent, hard work, and wear and tear on their bodies.

You want a roster full of Tim Tebow or Myron Rolle types and that shite ain’t happening. You have to give a bit. Very few players have it all. And since winning and a high level game are too damn important, it’s the loyalty, character, and quality student stuff that gets tossed out the window.
