South Carolina has a great record and has really done well (with a weaker schedule and some luck), but is realistically more of an overachieving middle-of-the-pack team — regardless, they're having a fantastic season. Texas A&M is probably at a similar level, probably having played better competition

A&M and SC aren't at a similar level. SEC play reflects that.

Their metrics are actually very similar.

Take kenpom, for example:

SC
AdjO: 52
AdjD: 42
SOS: 88

A&M
AdjO: 59
AdjD: 60
SOS: 20

Or Haslam:

SC
Off: 51
Def: 60
SOS: 87

A&M
Off: 56
Def: 62
SOS: 41

A&M has just been on a freefall for the past month (1–5). They played each other less than a week ago and it was 2-point game.

And to be clear, I don't mean to take anything away from SC at all. I'm rooting for them.
