quote:What's magical about 24? Nothing. I can tell you why 16 is significant: because, with a 9 game schedule, we can still play everyone with enough frequency to have something that can be called a conference.
Expansion is a matter of when not if. Big 10 and SEC are eventually going to 24 a piece and leave the NCAA because money trumps tradition or culture.
At 24, we're just a confederation, and likely to be split geographically. If we take 8 more teams from the ACC, then you'll probably end up with something like 8 team pods. I'm sure that LSU and the Mississippi schools would love being split off from the other charter SEC members to be lumped in a pod with Arkansas, OU, A&M and Texas. Or, maybe instead of 8 ACC schools, we take 4 from the ACC, and then UH, Baylor, Tech, and TCU from the Big XII. Put those four with A&M, Texas, OU, and Arkansas, and we've just about got the SWC back together.
There really is no reason for the SEC and Big Ten to leave the NCAA. It's not like the NCAA is blocking these schools from doing anything.

Money. Why give the other conference teams more than they deserve? An SEC B1G only championship would get great TV ratings.
I'd rather see the other conferences included, but only if they understand their value and accept the cold harsh reality

That would be 3 @ 8 each. Good luck sorting that out.
