The status of Jose Antonio Ibarra's residency remains unclear, as Athens-Clarke County, Georgia, is a sanctuary city. For those uninitiated, such localities legally protect low-priority immigrants from deportation.

No, I don’t. You owe all of us an apology for pulling stupid evidence that is incorrect.

Your citation: Sportskeeda. What is this??

Actual correct evidence: AJC News
The AJC’s linked article within the first article: Detail on GA Outlawing Sanctuary Cities
The actual referenced GA State law: GA Senate Bill 269

Your source is further distorting a skewed article that UGA’s student paper, the Red & Black, wrote in 2018 ( here).

That article reported the Clarke County Sheriff’s office—note that’s only 1 of 4+ local Police jurisdictions overseeing UGA’s campus—would stop honoring unofficial verbal ICE “detainers”, which only amounted to holding an inmate an extra 48 hrs after booking anyway.

Neither Athens County, the City of Athens, nor the UGA Police departments, nor the state of GA Sheriff’s office in that area, ever approved that pushback.

On top of this, NONE of those 4 jurisdictions ever agreed to stop honoring written ICE detainers. From the same Red & Black article:

“The [Clarke County] Sheriff will still comply with state law and honor ICE detainers that are “accompanied by a judicial warrant or an order from a court,” the press release said.”
