KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV/Gray News) – A 13-year-old boy who was separated from his father in the hysteria during the shooting at the Super Bowl parade celebration in Kansas City on Wednesday was saved by a Chiefs player.
Running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire saw Zach Cotten in need, so he stepped in and helped him to safety.
“Clyde is a great human being,” Zach’s father Chris Cotten said. “He didn’t have to help my son, but he did.”
The Cotten family can breathe easier now than they did after the rally. The father and son duo were separated as bullets rang out around them.
“Somebody yelled, ‘Shooter!’ and everybody started running,” Zach recalled. “I’m panicking because I don’t know where to go. I ran into the player’s room to find the nearest exit. I’m back there panicking, don’t know what to do because I was by myself.”
Zach’s father immediately took out his cell phone and called his son, but things were happening so fast.
“He said, ‘I don’t know where I am,’ but he handed me the phone and it was Clyde. I didn’t know it was Clyde,” Zach’s dad said. “I didn’t know who it was. He said, ‘I have your son. Your son is safe. He’s OK.’”

That's actually pretty amazing. Well done by CEH.
You can read this two ways — were they already apart, or did they get separated in the chaos?
Because if it's the latter, that dad needs to explain why he just ran in another direction without his son.

Andy Reid, as well as other Chiefs, also acted like men should.

It's a Super Bowl Championship parade, in the early afternoon. Dad standing in an area, 13 yr old trying to move up and see the players more closely. Might be no more than 10 ft apart, with clear line of sight.
Someone yells "Shooter" and it's sudden chaos, people running every which way. If you're not physically holding hands (and sometimes even if you are), you can get separated and lose visual contact. People shove in between you and your kid, and your kid runs opposite direction because there looks to be an opening... terrifying to imagine.
Thank God Clyde- or any other adult- did something in the heat of the moment.

Exactly. My very thought. How does one downvote a great act like that?

But that wouldn't be cool to acknowledge on this site
Paperwasp, I wasn't trying to insult you regarding this:

I'm pointing out the dynamics of crowds, particularly at a parade route (like we just saw with Mardi Gras). You THINK you're close to someone and can easily reach them, but there's maybe 2 dozen people at arm's reach, just in one single direction. Your judgement of safety is because they are not moving, and so you can get to somebody in maybe 2-3 steps, because that person (your kid) is basically also not moving, just pressing in towards the parade. You get a sudden stampede of people moving between you, and your kid bolts in a direction away from you... ain't a damn thing you can do. And the kid might have HAD to go that direction to keep from getting trampled by larger adults.
