Texas and OU definitely belong in the SEC. They are both quality blue blood programs with great history and passionate fans.

Really?

I don't know. No doubt about the fandom and quality.

I guess I'm sounding kind of oldish, it's just that Big 8 football was a true identity. The move to the Big XII was kind of awkward, but it seemed familiar enough.

I suppose we'll fit into the SEC ok, have some good seasons in a variety sports, blah blah blah and so on. And I also suppose after some number of years it will become 'normal' for many of us. But Money has really changed the game over the last 30-40 years. I like some of the changes - especially for the players. But these strange conferencesteins that are forming.... I am just not sure I can ever really get used to that.

I grew up with the Big12. It was dysfunctional from the beginning, but it was truly unique. I think it was the only conference to ever really build a fence around its major recruiting beds. Texas was a free for all in recruiting until the late 90’s, then it became a farm almost exclusively to Big12 schools until Aggie tore the fences down on their way out.

The Big12 also adopted the wacky offensive philosophy of TXHSFB and really revolutionized the game at every level. Towards the end of its run, The Big12 even began changing defensive philosophy in college football. During its tenure, almost every member team had their time in the Sun, except Nebraska. It really was its own thing separate from boring Big10 football and SEC football.

It’s not just football either. There used to be a distinct cultural difference from the South & Southwest states like Texas & Oklahoma. Those lines are very blurred these days. Texas is more southern than ever.
