He’s bad. His offenses sucked here and at Notre Dame.

Bill O'Brien has a good scheme but he's not a good playcaller. Alabama had far too many 3 and out drives for him. His success as a playcaller was all about the "first first down" in a drive. If he could get a possession started, he usually could get the offense into a rhythm. He just struggled with getting a possession started.

Tommy Rees demonstrated no core understanding of the scheme Alabama used or simply did a poor job of apply concepts from his Brian Kelly tutelage to the playbook. There is a reason nobody has gobbled him up as soon as he retired. He has no great reputation for developing quarterbacks and he's a lower end offensive playcaller.
