we don’t have the NIL funds other schools do

I don’t get this narrative. We have the most loyal, obsessive fanbase in America. I grew up in New Orleans, graduated from Alabama, lived in California and now Arizona. Both Southern California and Phoenix have huge alumni groups. We support, financially, scholarships for local kids to go to Alabama, why would we not support athletes?

Nick made Alabama a national brand and I have no reason to believe alumni across the country won’t continue to support the university. Being an alumnus doesn’t leave you when you move to another state, we are Alabama until the end.

Alone, if every former athlete donated (just look at the number of nfl players), we should be in great shape.

Rich people are rich usually because they are shrewd business people. They won’t throw good money after bad, they want return on investment. Donating to nil is much different than making a donation to get your name on a building.

I’ll also say this, in the end it is just a sport. If the worst thing that happens to you today is for a player to enter the portal, consider yourself blessed and fortunate.

I mean a lot of schools have this. But some of them have the uber wealthy backing them too. A single billionaire who’s heavily invested in the football program can easily outspend entire alumni groups.

I didn’t mean Alabama’s NIL is poor but there are certain programs we will never be able to outspend. Before we had Saban’s promise of development and success to off set things. Now we don’t

And yeah maybe some of them will stop donating to the teams as much if the results aren’t there but as of right now those schools have insane amounts of NIL offers to throw around

Very true. Plenty of people in the world with worse worries

Downs leaving has to be put into perspective. For example, today I won a property tax appeal in court that saved me $907 in taxes for each of the next three years. May not seem like much to you big bucks folks but I'm retired and can use the money.
