Many Bama fans are in psychological shock because their worst fear has happened. Saban is gone.

So they are coping by trying to convince themselves that some no name coach is a great thing when in reality it’s a total disaster.

You don’t know how accurately you’ve hit the nail on the head. There is a huge segment of the Alabama fanbase that have built their entire personal identity around the University of Alabama football team. Their happiness depends on the success or failure of the Crimson Tide. When things go well, they’re happy. But when things don’t go well, they lose their minds. We joke about it here, but it’s a real thing. Over the years there are numerous examples of shootings, stabbing, and famously poisoning the Toomer trees. Not all Bama fans are like this. But a lot of them are.

They’re in the early stages of the grieving process.
