Hard to say as an old LSU fan. Curley Hallman was supposed to be the next big thing. Tex Schramm basically told LSU's AD "hire Curley Hallman and don't look back". He turned out to be the worst coach LSU has ever had. Brett Favre made him look good. No more Brett Favre and we saw who he was.

LSU 2019 is not as apt an example. Everyone knew Orgeron was a buffoon and marveled at what a buffoon could do with an elite QB and receivers. Having Aranda as DC and a young Joe Brady as Passing Game coordinator helped, too.

I really don't know enough about DeBoer to know where he falls. My gut tells me he is average to above average. Bama will be a top 10 to 20 team but will start to fade and be looking for a coach in 5 to 7 years. Could be a similar dynamic to what happened after Bear retired.

Ray Perkins started a very average 8-4 but then went 5-6. Ooff! (he did beat AU though because of wrong way Bo and Robert McGinty)
