Was just reading about that. Didn’t realize what a historically old team UW had this year. They lost the best two players to the NFL, now losing key starters to the portal. DeBoer was facing a total rebuild and a likely .500 season.

Yes their run to,the CFP was like a NCAA tourney team with all Seniors starters that made a run to the Final Four.

Article said the average starter was a fifth-year senior. That is nuts.

A bunch were from the previous coaches recruits and some transfers. Penix was a 6 year player, RS injury and a Covid year.

Penix was on his sixth year, wasn't he?

If this forum didn’t have the interface of a 2002 internet blog I could upload you the pic of how many players they have leaving. It’s something like 12+ and then another 10 key players in portal. Lol. Tbh I’ve never seen anything like it.

He’s a very humble guy who is an incredible schemer. He found our small weak spots constantly when we played him and always made good in game adjustments. Ducks have better athletes but we just could never get anything rolling against him. But he did ride Penix for a very long time ( as all great coaches who ride great players ) but Penix was a once in a generation type QB for a system like college. I don’t think he will be that great of a pro but that doesn’t matter anymore. The pressure is off on alot of these coaches now imo with the playoff going to 12. 2 losses basically assures that you’re getting in. So I think he will be fine. When he has to recruit his own players , not Sabans that were left. That’s the true test.

I disagree, they had a great qb this year but I think without Penix they do not get close to beating Oregon.
