Without delving into the multitude of specific reasons why this logic is flawed, I'd just like to point out that you're comparing modern metrics with those from 20+ years ago.

Pio wasn't even born yet.

Last 12 years in the Big 12
Last 12 years in the SEC

It's a good comparison imo.

As for the why.. I have some answers.

1) A&M improved, which is reflected in their stronger OOC record against P5 teams during the two time periods.

2) A&M recruiting improved which allowed them to compete better against the SEC than they could prior to joining the SEC.

I believe both of those statements are true, but if that is the case, why wouldn't that also apply to any new teams joining the league?

I understand, but it doesn't work that way.

In its last three years in the SEC, Georgia Tech was 7–3, 7–3, and 7–4.

In its last three years in the ACC, Georgia Tech has been 7–6, 5–7, and 3–9.

Are we therefore to conclude that the ACC is much harder than the SEC?

Is there anything that we can confidently infer from the above information?

If your last statement is true, how in the hell was one of their two best SEC seasons pulled off with players recruited to play in the Big12? Sherman (their coach at the time) was opposed to an SEC move and when it happened it was quite sudden..no time to recruit "SEC" players.
