It absolutely was on the coaches. But no one here knows the extent or how coachable he was. He was a senior moved from guard, where he should have stayed. It’s sad if he was the best option. Don’t think anyone is out to hurt the kid, We all hope he finds greener pastures wherever he ends up.

Very mature answer thanks. The question to me is he was moved meaning they were short players (in that spot) already. And begs the question why no portals to fill need?

The OC has to take some heat as the center position is very important to the qb having success. Of course all teams get in the bind of schollys and trying to fill all needs.

Some teams fill extra needs at other spots leaving a few spots vulnerable. It could be the OC figured he had enough OLine who could cover as needed and it bit him. A lot of linemen are interchangeable for the most part but they specialize in one area.

If your main center got hurt its understandable but if they relied on a guard all season and didn’t have someone else trained/coached up thats on the OC.

As an example OU only had 2 suited RBs for their bowl game. Had plenty all year but graduation/portal/nfleft it bare. One of the two was in the portal a few weeks prior to bowl game yet stayed and played (classy move by him, he transferred to Wisky a day after). The other was great but got dinged up during game and had to be used sparingly rest of game. This meant we had to mostly pass with a true freshman in first start. I say this is an exception due to circumstances with most leaving since not in playoffs.

But Bama was in playoffs so I assume your center didn’t portal out (or go nfl). It appears you were short handed all season and that means OC needed a better plan for a trained/coached backup center.

Appreciate the reply
