If you look at population figures alone in the United States, that really doesn’t make good sense IMO. Roughly 2/3rds of this country’s population lives east of the Mississippi River, and Pasadena is on the western most part of the country’s population, albeit in a very populous state. However, there is a lot going on in California to divert attention away from CFB, and I’d say per capita, is not really what one would call rabid CFB fans. I realize it’s the National Championship and will draw fans, but I just don’t think it makes good sense to put it so far away from where the real heart of CFB fans and big time college football programs are located geographically, or at least not every year let’s say. To the best of my knowledge, no sport does that.
