You’re right, FSU should have just said Jordan Travis would be cleared to play in the playoffs. Then, according to the playoff committee’s logic, FSU should be a top 4 team.

I’m sure the playoff committee would believe Travis would be the first football player in the history of the sport to return to action a month and a half after clearly having his tibia snapped in two. Why not claim he learned how to fly through outer space during rehab while you are at it.
