Hey I'm a Texas Ex and from SE Louisiana. So I feel ya. By the why you let your kid go to a&m? Do you not love them?

Hah! Yeah, I hate to say it, but since UTexas fully jumped the woke shark 20 years back, ATM is the better undergrad experience with far less indoctrination required.
UTex is still a great place to go to grad school.
