Let's look at the two years prior to Saban's arrival to determine the state of the program and then look at Saban's first two year to see where he took the program.

1998 LSU 4-7
1999 LSU 3-8
Enter Saban
2000 LSU 8-4
2001 LSU 10-3 SEC Champs

2005 Alabama 10-2
2006 Alabama 6-7
Enter Saban
2007 Alabama 7-6
2008 Alabama 12-1 Definitely NOT SEC Champs

Does this make Saban a comparative failure? After all, he took an LSU program in much worse shape than Alabama and made them SEC Champs in year 2.

(Yes, tongue is planted firmly in cheek.)

Saban lost his first Championship game at Bama.

That never happened at LSU.

THE SPELL IS BROKEN !

WAIT DID SABAN HAVE 3 LOSSES AT LSU IN HIS SECOND YEAR AND ONLY ONE AT BAMA. I THINK HES AHEAD AT BAMA. BUT MAYBE DOWN THERE THEY TEACH A DIFFERNT MATH CLASS.

Saban had the ultimate pass this year

LSU, Aub, Moo st had the worst years in a long time, with two coaches getting fired!

Ole Miss, Ark got new coaches

And Bama had the 6th easiest schedule in the nation. I'm not sure he's proved anything yet.

Mike Shula has clumps of hair in the drain that look better than Sabans whole head.

I'll take an SEC Championship no matter how many losses the team has over no championship!!!!!!!!!!

I thought this thread was a joke at first, but then I read this:

and am now convinced that some of you people are serious. You guys will let your hate for Bama and Saban complete override your brains.

How's this for a stat:

Saban's first two years at Bama: 19-7 (bowl pending)
Les' previous two years at LSU: 19-7

Who has more talent? Who has his players and philosophy firmly placed in the program?

NO NEED TO SHOUT!!!!!

Who cares if you have 1 loss or 3 losses, he won the SECCG in his 2nd yr at LSU.

Saban led a solid, above-average but certainly not great Bama team to an undefeated season due to a very down year for the SEC. He is a fantastic coach no doubt, but Bama's team this year was not as good as the record suggests.
