What happened to him in 97? I know Alexander came in the year before but didn’t eat that many carries, if my memory serves me right.

One of my childhood memories was watching him run all over LSU in 95 in that black visor. Certain players names stick with us from a youth and his was always one of mine

He was benched behind Alexander. Sports-reference.com says Riddle went from 242 carries in 1996 down to 97 carries in 1997.

Shaun Alexander was a sophomore in 97 and only had 90 carries that year.

Curtis Alexander got the bulk of the carries that year after Riddle had a good year the year before and I can’t remember if it was an injury issue or just lost his job

Always loved this old YT video that incorporates the game winning drive in the IB and Stalling's retirement speech postgame. There's also a brief interview with Riddle about the TD. The call is Eli Gold's as well. Worth a watch.
