I’ve been back and forth on this and I’ve come to the conclusion that the blame falls squarely on the DBs shoulders. Roberts put them in position to be successful and the players didn’t do their job. The coaches can only put you in position to be successful. There were 8 DBs in the end zone!!! There isn’t any excuse, you just had to stay focused for one play and the game was yours.

Yet there was only one within 6 or 7 yards of where the ball was caught and he had his whole damn body turned looking at the fricking reciever.

Leaving a db one on one in that scenario is the opposite of putting them in a position to be successful, especially when the qb and receiver have infinity time to get set up in an advantageous position

This is the point I’m making. They weren’t put in a position to be successful. Asking db’s at any level to cover sideline to sideline with ZERO pass rush for 10 plus seconds is a recipe for disaster. He could have waited 20 or 30 seconds to make that throw. It’s a do or die situation. That ball can only be thrown to the end zone! If he heaves it up under pressure and they get a lucky tip, it sucks but that’s football. That bullshite last night was embarrassing and if that’s best you can come up with, out of a timeout, you deserve to get beat. The fricked up part is if you’re honest with yourself you knew the ending of that game was coming before it happened. Hell even after it happened we had a guy running the ensuing kickoff out of the end zone to the 10 or 15 instead of taking it at the 35. It’s such low IQ football that it’s maddening. Instead of needing 20 or 25 yards to get into field goal range, frick it, let’s make it 50 or 60..
