Georgia has climbed to dizzying new heights while Clemson, for a while a juggernaut, is back near its historical mean.

I don't follow recruiting carefully but is this mostly explained by recruits that would have gone to Clemson going to Georgia instead? I know Clemson pulled a lot of talent out of Georgia when they were riding high.

Not really. It has to do with practice and player development. Smart and his staff develop their every star rated talent better than anyone. They develop supposed 3 stars (see Ladd Mc)into elite players often. They develop 4 & 5 stars to perform to their potential. Smart works their arse in practice and freshman, year after year, are earning spot playing time early in their freshman season and are typically huge contributors by year end. (See CJ Allen)They are seasoned veterans by their sophomore year. To get on the field for Kirby a player has to earn it on the practice field and film room. They have to be bought in to all fundamentals at their position. If not, they get passed up. (See Arian Smith.) And every potential contributor is ready by year end to step in and up. See the #12. That is how many players who caught passes from Beck on Saturday. He has a fine tuned machine humming over the last 3 seasons.
