The thing about 5 star players is even if they aren't a great football player, they are still almost always extremely athletic. Just having a bigger, stronger, faster team is an advantage in itself.
Recruiting rankings aren't perfect, but the vast majority of the time teams that recruit really well for 3-4 years in a row are the ones who win championships. If you broke teams down by how big the offer sheets of each player on the rosters was, you'd see Bama, Georgia, Ohio St at the top.
