For those of you that thought Mertz was going to be a failure at UF. IMO he has been one of the few bright spots on this team. Thoughts?

He's been great. I hope he comes back next year to give Lagway time to get reps and not throw him to the wolves.
But if he has a chance to be on a NFL roster (I'm thinking he'd be a backup with his intelligence. He doesn't seem to have the physical tools or arm to be a NFL starter, but I'm no scout so who knows), I will fully support him.
Honestly, the 24 class (which is taking a hit today but I think will be okay. I think we keep the key pieces and any losses will be replaced), Mertz, and the amount of Freshman that have been played are what is keeping me patient through this tough period.

I have my doubts, two more poor showings and it could get ugly.

We'll see.
Lots is made of wins and losses. I know Jimbo got fired, but he still kept classes together when he underperformed at A & M. Scott Satterfield sucked at UL on the field but always recruited well and kept classes together despite pissing his pants during the season. And when Mullen had his first two seasons with 10-11 wins, we thought it would help recruiting but it did not.
I think the guys who flipped would likely have flipped if we were on pace for 8 wins or so anyway.
As much as I have my doubts about Napier as a HC overall, I do think his recruiting and ability to deal with the ups and downs is one area where he could be reliably trusted.

What a great player, hate that he got hurt but it was inevitable. I hope he comes back next year.

I feel bad for him having to miss the final game at home.

Without Mertz this might be a 3 win team.
