Admittedly I am an LSU fan, but I do not see how you can lump LSU in with "everyone else."

Not with their record over the last 20 years. 3 NCs.

Sure, they can have a bad season now and then, but they are definitely someone that you have to keep your eye on.

Why do you think Bama has their bye week before the LSU game going back many years?

LSU is in that grey area. They have the name brand and fanbase and proved last year that they can pull the upset against the big boys on occasion.
I'll preface what I'm going to say by saying that I cheer for LSU most of the time. Any enemy of Auburn is a friend of mine. That being said, LSU's problem is recruiting. Go look at the last 5 years of recruiting classes for UGA and Bama. Then look at LSU's classes the last 5 years. Unless they can start bringing in a whole slew of 4 and 5 star recruits, mainly in the trences, they'll always struggle to reach the top, like everyone else. UGA and Bama win because while most teams are celebrating getting one 4 or 5 star WB or RB, we celebrate getting five 4 or 5 star OL or DLinemen. That's the difference. Can Kelly get them to that level?...I dunno, you tell me?
