It's even simpler imo. We know we can out talent and out depth pretty much everyone but Bama and OSU. Have a bad day? No problem, you win by 10 instead of 30. Have a bad day against Bama? You get the 2021 SECCG.
It's nice to have that crutch against lesser teams.

Now you're also correct in that to beat Bama you gotta beat Nick Saban. That's been the toughest test in Football for the last 15 years. Nobody ever really blows out Saban, other than that one NCG against Clemson. Should be a great game.
