Humans have this weird thing about not being super consistent.

Also some strengths of teams don’t necessarily bear out against certain teams.

Respect especially at college age

Throw in the match up issues in college

You can have a future NFL HOFer playing along side future lumber salesman of the year ...and opposing school may have the exact weapon to pick on the weakest link
