It’s going to happen. This couldn’t work out any better than for KY to replace their coach right after Oats signs a huge contract extension with significant buyout. Thanks, UL and Mich, and thank YOU Greg Byrne!!!
Update: I failed to take into account the utter stupidity of the Arkansas athletic department.
Not only did they probably guarantee themselves 0 final fours in the next 5 years (and probably 0-1 E8s after getting 2 in the last 5), they just let one of their main competitors off the hook for a 33mm buyout, gave them a free chance to upgrade, and took away at least 1 more year of bad performance from them. Just amateur hour by Arky. Greg Byrne would never, ever have even had Cal in his top 20 list to replace Muss. SMH
Pio - tell your brass to get it together…they just hurt the entire conference by giving KY a get out of jail free card
Hope Oats truly is happy being a bit out of the limelight and truly happy in Tuscaloosa! Good thing we made the F4 this year, as I think that erased all doubt in his mind if he could win championships here.
Edited to 2 E8s, they had 3 S16s

This is the most irritating part of it. Kentucky did not want to spend that buyout money. It's not even clear they could have spent it this offseason even if they wanted to. They were going to eventually, but it did not look like it'd be until next year at the absolute earliest. I mean it's almost like Arkansas is falling on the sword for them because there is like a 95% chance Kentucky comes out of all this smelling like roses and Arkansas is left holding the bag.
