So when does Alabama actually get serious about a new basketball arena?

- We’ve made a Final Four now.
- We have a coach who is considered by a consensus to be one of the best in America.
- Said coach is likely to be targeted by Blue Blood programs and/or by NBA teams at some point.

I know there is a financial aspect to it that has to be dealt with, but if now isn’t the time, then when?

What we absolutely don’t want to do is say “Well, it’s just not the right time yet.” and then we’re sitting around looking at each other wondering how we let Oats get away.

I don't think the lack of a new arena would be the main reason Oats would leave. He's either eventually going to want to take a crack at a blueblood program where basketball is on, or above, the same level as football or try the NBA.

I get the money aspect but building the arena shows that Alabama is serious about basketball to the rest of the nation. It's a bad look to be the brand that Alabama is and has one of the worst venues in the conference.

If he ever does leave, and if he wasn't coaching in a new arena when that time arrives, it will be in the back of everyone's head.

Oats genuinely doesn’t care about the arena. This is essentially pro ball now. Players would play in a high school gym and make more money
