This is the reason the networks are willing to pay so much for live sports...production costs almost nothing after paying for the rights but it is the only TV programming left which is conducive to people watching with commercials. The same is true for cable news...production costs are nearly nothing compared to a drama or sitcom and it is somewhat live so commercials are a reality.
