Who cares about the big cities if no SEC school is based there?
If we are using current, former, and future
NOLA = Tulane
If we are using current, former, and future
NOLA = Tulane

… Jackson
For starters, many of the cities you listed have very distinctive cultural elements they’re very well known for.
There’s plenty of very diverse cultural influences that individually define many of these cities in their overall representation & perception, even for people that may have never even set foot in these cities.
Miami?…Memphis?…New Orleans?
They ALL have a general pervasive “vibe” that have culturally defined them in their respective perception of the melting pot of “Americana”
However?
Jackson???
For one, it barely meets the criteria to be considered a “City”…much less a “Big City”?
And?…unless I’ve COMPLETELY missed the memo?…
…I’m coming up with nothing regarding any notable elements associated with “The Jackson Scene”

Not so much a “ranking”…but a general trivial “factoid” about myself.
I’ve actually been arrested in four of the cities you listed.
Acquitted in two…a sleep-over in the “drunk tank” in another…and significantly fined and released on the basis of “time-served” in another.
I was also handcuffed and held in the back of a police cruiser for about 2 hours in another one of the cities on the list…
…but technically never “arrested”…it just took a little while to sort out a “misunderstanding” before they eventually turned me loose.

I wish I would have invited you to my bachelor party. And the divorce party.

Both momentous occasions worthy of PROPER celebration.
If you plan on making that particular combination of mistakes again?…keep me “in the loop” and I’ll see if I can make it.
Unless it goes down in Tampa?
…simply put…I’ve been jurisdictionally “Banned” from Tampa

You’re right, I’m shortening that list.

All I know is Nashville and New Orleans are near my top. Orlando and Birmingham are at the bottom.

No…
No, Man
…shite NO, Man !!
I really didn’t mean to downplay your overall list by any means.
But?…how ‘bout you just reconfigure the phraseology from “SEC Big Cities” to “SEC Towns”?
There’s still room for the “Big Cities”…but also iconic smaller cities & towns that add to the overall flavor of the various municipalities that make up the realm within the SEC.
That covers places like Charleston, Savanna, Jacksonville, Biloxi…and yes even Jackson.
Also places like Oxford, Fayetteville, Gainesville, Auburn…and…(I’m gonna try REALLY hard not to puke while I type out this next one….) and even Athens.
If anything, get rid of “Cities” and replace it with a term that covers a MUCH wider scope with “Towns”?
Shorten the list ?…
NO
No, Man !…
shite NO, MAN !!

people in Fort Worth avoid Dallas 100% of the time, so there's a hint for you on that
I'll try and rank these - I've lived in four of them but that might even make my ranking worse than better

Nashville - I love Nashville - disappointed often, but love it
Atlanta - I love Atlanta - disappointed often, but love it
Louisville - pretty good town, some very bad spots - don't go west past 4th street
Houston - I like Houston. I don't get the hate.
Tampa - plus St Pete, very decent I think
Memphis - well shite, I guess
New Orleans - I'll take it over most of these
Birmingham proper is awful - outskirts are great
Jacksonville - spent one night there

Miami - I don't know, closest I've been was 40 miles north
Kansas City - not SEC, but okay? I like KC peeps
San Antonio - war zone, especially the south side
Orlando - screw that. not even on the beach
St Louis - awful. black people will murder you and the white people are Satan worshipers - I love the Cardinals, but frick St Louis
Austin - was great 25 years ago!!!

I was once handcuffed in Atlanta in Buckhead

it never materialized past me sitting in a parking lot handcuffed, and then they realized they'd fricked up and uncuffed me - I'd admitted I'd had two beers and I guess they loved the honesty

ETA: I guess this was before breathalyzers - ETA: it was

Go to most of those places and report back.
If you make it.
If you make it.

I’ve been to 12 of them, but wanted to hear what others thought.

Because posters talk about the towns everyday here. The cities are where a lot of Grads go, and I’d like to hear about them.

I appreciate the post HRV.
Big cities, in SEC states. Kansas City is Missouri.
