I've watched a little bit of Cal now. From my perspective the key to the game will be the Auburn DL and front 7 against the Cal front on offense.

Spavital is kind of Malzahn protege run some zone but does a lot of pulls and counters. To attack that on defense you have to shoot the gap that the movement of the OL creates. Obviously you have to have the players to do that but at a minimum you have to attack the blocks and not "catch" the blocker. Again another obvious the LBers have to tackle.

If they can't run I'm not sure how much they will be able to pass. If they establish the run then I think that will open up the pass some.

In the end I think overall talent we have more.

Pack the box, stop the run, contain and play disciplined and make them pass. Trust our corners and secondary - one of our strengths even if we get burned a few times. Knock Ott's teeth out FTW.

Holding them to fewer points than us. Subtle, but different. Our D vs their O (especially their run game and QB runs, called or break downs. We have to be disciplined and no stupid offsides, substitution (anyone see Flarda, I think, having 2 #3's on the field at the same time on a punt return? Gatah looked like hot dogshite.LOL) or PF penalties. I'll give up a few PI calls if necessary.

The more and more it seems to me that AU and Cal are virtual mirror images of each other - schemes, personnel, coaching, game 1 results, both prepping for 2 QBs, excellent RB rooms, everything, EXCEPT special teams, and that might make the difference. I think this is going to be one of the better and more exciting games this season and a chess match, away. Cal is no joke. Just hope we can come back with a win. I'm still calling it a pick 'em. WDE ETA from SEC and PAC 10 OL players of the week topic below. I think Cal (and their 17 fans) will be absolutely lit. Gold Out and their stadium's 100th anniversary. They will be up for Auburn.
Can I bump this? Too bad more posters didn't post here. I don't toot my own horn, but I will today. WDE.

I was completely wrong on "one of the better games". Ugliest down to the wire shitshow (our O) cripple fight I had seen in 10+ years. Exciting isn't the right word either - I can't think of a word that describes what we witnessed. I've never seen a game where the O and D played such a bipolar day and night different game. D was frickin lit, O played in the dark, blindfolded. We did come back with the win. WDE. I predicted AU 34-bears 30. Got the spread right but was off 20 points for both teams. WTF happened tonight???

Attendance was about 44,000. Imagine next year when they see 2x that and what happens in Auburn on football Saturdays. Looking forward to Ott's sorry arse coming into our house. Bitch.
