This off season move (and non move) tells you all you need to know about his defense:
“Lincoln Riley brought in Kliff Kingsbury for whatever reason, when Gary Patterson and Bo Pelini are available.”
CW makes LR. Once he leaves this year he has to replace him heading into B10. CW will be drafted #1. But to give up 28 to a G5 team who ranked close to bottom in offense last year is telling. Game only opened up in 2nd half after SJS got tired with no depth.

Getting Gary Patterson would’ve been brilliant. Bringing in Pelini would’ve been laughable. CW will leave and Riley will continue to win with offense with his next QB.
SJS scored 27 a game last year. SC will be just like OU under Riley as long as he keeps his defensive and S&C staff. Out score most teams and win hope to catch lightening in the playoff. But at SC the resources are there for all the defensive talent he could hope to get.

I fail to see how having Coach Shades on the cheap as an offensive analyst is a problem.
