Simply put, a disastrous day for Bama. Dowling and Heivilin each with 3 errors (and honestly, it looked like the team committed more than that - I’m guessing plays with multiple errors were recorded as 1 error against the player who committed the first one). It was the worst performance I ever recall seeing. Silly errors and stupid (stupid) decision making. Pitching and defense have been the “bread and butter” so far this year and both went out the window today. Another one against Florida tomorrow, then a road trip to FSU, followed by a weekend series at Georgia. Bama Fans gird your loins.

quote:

Alabama fell in Sunday's game two to Florida, 11-2, in five innings as the Gators clinched the weekend series.

Similar to game one, Alabama (19-3, 0-2 SEC) fell behind early after Florida (21-3, 2-0 SEC) plated a pair of unearned runs in the first inning. The Gators added another run in the top of the third on an RBI single and, now trailing 3-0, the Crimson Tide loaded the bases with nobody out in the bottom of the third. On a grounder to the right side, the Florida second baseman missed the tag attempt as everyone was safe, scoring a run and keeping the bases loaded. Later with the bases loaded and one out, another run scored on an RBI groundout before a flyout ended the inning with Alabama trailing by one.

Gator pitcher Ava Brown helped her own cause in the top of the fourth with a solo home run and Florida piled it on in the top of the fifth, scoring five runs on five hits and three Tide errors to push ahead 11-2, which proved final after five innings. Jaala Torrence (7-2) took the loss for the Tide in the circle, exiting after 2.0 innings.

From Head Coach Patrick Murphy
"We got in our heads. When you're struggling on defense, the ball always continues to find that one person. It's like a magnet. Unfortunately, that was just an ugly game. That kind of game happens across all sports and tonight was ours."
