So turn down a scholarship at a high end university because you had the audacity to think that you shouldn’t have to fly across the country every weekend

They do not have to fly across country, they can quit sports and pay for their education like the overwhelming majority of the students in school do.

Playing sports is a privilege, and playing at the highest levels in the country is a privilege, but for all but a handful they have no future in sports. The education is more important and should be a priority for them. If they are unable to travel for sports because of school then quit sports or find a conference that travels less. I’m sure Oregon U is a great school but they can transfer to the big 12 or any number of decent schools that offer scholarships and less commitment.

This mentality has been so misapplied over the years that it has gotten painfully stupid to hear.

Just about everything in life is a fricking privilege. Just because something is optional, doesn’t mean it should be left alone with the tip of a cap.
