Need to get out of the house and loading up my truck with the kayak and camping gear for a weekend trip.. Since it’s a spur of the moment type thing, I have done minimal research on where to go, but would love to find a beautiful swamp/wetlands area great for camping and fishing off the kayak. I am much more familiar fishing fresh water, but don’t mind salt water fishing either. Anybody know of any good spots out in Louisiana? Thanks in advance!

I’d rent an airboat.

Yeah?
Camping + Kayaking + LA Bayou + Late July/Early August = Darwin Award Nominee
I’d 1st advise listening to Jerry Reed’s “Amos Moses” and then advise pondering another destination for the time being…or at least postpone your existing plans by at least 3 months.

If going with that option, consider putting in at Indian Bayou off Parrish Rd 3-95 and paddle east into the Atchafalaya Wildlife Refuge.

Jesus, y’all.. I’m not a French fur trapper exploring the Louisiana Territory. This is a weekend camping trip haha I typically go around this time every year to camp and fish Caddo Lake (Texas side), but figured I’d search for something new to explore

…I did the trip I described with a group of folks in jon-boats in late December about 15 years ago, and it was incredible. (and much more safe when most of the reptiles were dormant…or at least sluggish and slower to react)
Still?…It’d be really funny for the rest of us at your expense if you went out there in a kayak this weekend.

Hey, hey, hey! Don’t jinx me, you bastard haha I’m OUTCHEA right now doing some night fishing trying out some new baits off the shore line. Waiting till sunrise to jump in the kayak for some morning fishing early tomorrow..
While I will admit it’s not the safest time of year to kayak around in gator country, gators typically leave you alone. Have plenty of experience kayaking with them already and have never had any problems. I’m more afraid of cotton mouths and rabid raccoons.

Sounds groovy to me…if that’s that’s what you think…and as long it makes you feel good enough to sleep at night.
Oh?…and with regards to ‘coons & moccasins…at least have the good sense to string up a hammock for your swamp slumbering purposes & hang your food suspended on rope from a nearby tree branch.

You know what? You are right.. I’ll be dead within the next 3 hours, and my dying wish will be that A&M will go 15-0 for the next decade

Nah…
You’ll probably just end up with a few mosquito bites and AtM will go 7-5
