OU has a '24 commit from GA, MS, FL & LA & it's only July. Last year 30% of their recruiting class was from SEC states.

Texas isn't far behind those same stats.

The reality is that both Texas and Oklahoma could manage just fine in the SEC if they could just recruit Texas better. The SEC and Ohio State have encroached on Texas. And the west coast teams seem to have always been able to cherry pick the state.

I really feel like both Universities feel that being SEC members will help them compete for the Texas kids that Bama, Georgia and LSU keep poaching.

OU has always recruited nationally, Texas has dabbled but not much in the SEC footprint until recently.

You have to go national these days to a degree.. certain years classes and positions of weakness etc.

NIL will help slow down the historical raid on TX HS talent. There were always a group of the bluest chips in state that Texas had no real shot at that they have a fighting chance to close today.
