re: Everybody talks about games that “broke” a program; what about games that “made” one?

Some could say the 2008 Clemson game, but I think it was 2008 @ UGA. That was a good UGA team, and BAMA put the game out of reach in the first half. That game let the world know that BAMA was once again legitimate.

The other would be the 2009 SECCG against UF. UF was the best program in the conference at the time, with Tim Tebow no less, a loaded roster, and had beat BAMA for the SEC title just one year prior, and BAMA stomped them. That cemented BAMA back at the top of the conference and the college football world once again.

I was at that game. Talk about not just a game but a single play that completely changed the trajectories of two programs - early in the game, it may have even been on UF's first possession, Percy Harvin rolled out into the flat and in my memory there was no one within 20 yards of him. If he had made the reception there he would still be running to this day, and who knows how things would have played out then? But instead he dropped the easy catch. Bullet successfully dodged, Bama went on to complete one of the great mudhole stompings of all time.

Let’s not forget the Patrick Peterson INT game that year.

It took a series of games to put LSU football in the dirt, which was going to be a significant boon for Bama — and that was one of those games.
