What to expect from Alabama baseball, pitcher Grayson Hitt in 2023 MLB Draft

Alabama baseball is hoping to have at least a few more players drafted this season, as the 2023 MLB Draft starts Sunday and runs through Tuesday in Seattle. The first two rounds will be held on Sunday, beginning at 6 p.m. CT. Coverage of the first round will be broadcast on ESPN and MLB Network. Sunday's second round will be shown on MLB Network and ESPN+. Rounds 3-10 will be shown on MLB.com and ESPN+ on Monday, with the draft closing with Rounds 11-20 being also shown on MLB.com and ESPN+ on Tuesday.

The Crimson Tide's best bet for a 45th consecutive year with a draft pick might be lefthanded starting pitcher Grayson Hitt.

Hitt was mentioned as a potential MLB draftee before the season, but an elbow injury and subsequent Tommy John surgery have hurt his stock. Still, teams are high on Hitt, as MLB.com ranks him 88th in its top 250 prospects list, one of three Alabama players on the list.

Hitt is expected to be selected on the second day of the draft. This season, he started eight games before his injury, going 3-2 with a 4.19 ERA in 38? innings pitched.

Other Crimson Tide players hoping to be selected include relief pitcher Hunter Furtado (ranked 192nd by MLB.com) and outfielder Andrew Pinckney (216th). Their Alabama teammates such as shortstop Jim Jarvis, first baseman Drew Williamson, and second baseman Ed Johnson are also hoping to have their name called.

The Crimson Tide's top recruit is also one of the draft's top prospects. Bryce Eldridge, a first baseman and righthanded pitcher from James Madison High School in Virginia, is ranked as the draft's 23rd-best prospect by MLB.com, and will have to choose between Alabama and the team that drafts him.
