Was hoping for a younger hire. Hopefully he is committed to sticking around and recruiting for a while.

You’d have gotten youth and some promise for player development in Haire, experience at big programs and MLB with Johnson. Personally, I wasn’t thrilled about going down the promising mid major coach route again so I’m good with the move. Need to convey to donors, collective, and administration what is needed monetarily to compete in this conference and Johnson can do that; Haire wouldn’t have that same experience.

If anyone watched Jake Odorizzi get lit up like a Christmas tree for the Braves last season, just know that he was an All Star in Minnesota while Wes Johnson was his pitching coach.

This doesn't knock my socks off but I'm ok with it. Stricklin didn't really do anythign super well. He recruited somewhat ok on the face of it, when you look at some of the great players that have come through. But he recruited absolutely abysmally when you look at how much ludicrous talent is within 2 hours of campus that never even sniffed coming here. He always seemed to make questionable in-gmae coachign decisions, and he's never seemed super likeable just in general.

With Wes, we don't know if he can recruit and he doesn't seem like the kind to set down roots. BUT, there is one thing we DO know he can do at an elite level and that's coach pitching. He's also fully well versed in the analytics/trackman stuff which we currently are woefully behind on. So even though he may not be a grand slam, it's at least providign us something we've been without for a long time, and all the homegrown GA boys that never looked at UGA because of stricklin may start looking again.

The way I figure it, even if he's only here 2 years, I'm hopeful he can at least elevate the program into more solid footing for the next guy.
