Politics.
Seriously, he was the flavor of the month having just guided SMU to some pretty good records. Arkansas needed a coach, looked like they thought they couldn't lose. Turns out they couldn't win.

14-22 overall.
He was a terrible hire and the fans had negative reactions.
AD Jeff Long was fired and Morris was hired by a clown committee a day before the new AD was hired.
If that search was conducted by a serious AD that was actually in place then they should have went after Sonny Dykes but of course that made too much sense for the powers on the hill.
