And it’s progress towards a degree with minimal hours. The minimum is 6 credits per term with 40% by the end of year 2. A basic BS degree in the UGA system is 120 hours so minimum of 48 at the end of year 2. 5 terms a year, summer I and II fall winter spring so at minimum he must have 168 credit hours at this point with atleast a 2.0 average. He would have been awarded a general studies BS or BA at 140 hours

There aren’t 5 terms, there are 3. UGA is on the semester system. This throws off all your math.

They won’t just award you a Gen studies degree, they will simply list classes you took that don’t apply to the degree you are seeking as unused electives. If he switched majors at end of junior year or something he’d likely have a lot of these. Especially if he switched colleges from something like A&S to Business or vice versa.

Football player’s participation in Summer I and II so they can get offseason workouts and participate in offseason training is pretty standard.

Or do you believe that players go home for the summer?

It’s called an Interdisciplinary Studies degree at UGA:

A student with academic interests for which no suitable major is offered by any single department in the College of Arts and Sciences may pursue an Interdisciplinary Studies (IDS) major. An IDS major plans a program of study and fourth-year thesis with a faculty advisor and an advisory committee, who are chosen by the student and the IDS Coordinator. The Interdisciplinary Studies major consists of a minimum of 24 hours of courses plus a Fourth-year Thesis (3 hours) on a topic of special interest. At least 15 hours of the major must be drawn from departments within the College of Arts and Sciences.
