With Jaxon Dart returning and Spencer Sanders in the mix, it's not a surprise, so why did he leave again?

Because contrary to popular belief he didn’t leave because Jayden came back. He left because Nuss decided to stay and he wasn’t even going to have a chance of being the backup which he does have at Ole Miss.

This, and ultimately I can't blame him.

When he was recruited, Nussmeier wasn't that highly regarded, just filler. Howard was expecting to redshirt, and then sit another year maybe if Daniels returned, and get 3 (if he completes his eligibility) seasons as starter.
Nussmeier became the clear "next in line" last year, and he's only one yr ahead of Howard.

It's actually a good thing for LSU, if bad for Howard. We have a young QB in reserve that a top recruit couldn't beat out.

He was going to have to compete at both places to be the backup.
