Excited to see what this team can do. Could really use a good season in baseball after sub par football and basketball seasons.
Seems like this team’s got solid players from top to bottom. It’s early in the year, but scoring runs doesn’t seem to be an issue. The only question mark at the moment seems to be back end pitching.
Recap to this point:
(11.5 runs per game/3.63 ERA)
Charleston Southern
W 13-3
W 16-2
W 8-0
USF
W 6-1
L 10-9
Cincinnati
W 13-6
W 13-3
W 13-7
The only bad baseball to this point was blowing a 5 run lead in the top of the 9th in the midweek against USF.
However, they tied a school record with 8 home runs in a single game today, and 7 of them were no-doubters. Still early in the season, but things are looking up for the baseball Gators in 2023.

I don't think Cincinnati is considered a power house baseball school.
Pitching gave up alot of runs to cincy!!!

Pitching will probably be our achilles similar to last year. At least (so far) it seems like we may be able to score enough to overcome bad pitching here and there. Going to haven to tighten it up though.
#22 Miami comes to town next weekend, so we’ll see where we stand against a ranked opponent.

Bad pitching is to be expected in midweek games, especially the 9th inning of a second midweek game like the one where we blew a 5 run lead. We've got several Tuesday/Wednesday games to start the season so I'd expect some struggles in those.
Our Sunday pitcher, Caglianone, did hit 3 homers yesterday for whatever that's worth

Hope to see improvement here. Killed us last year, mainly middle relievers.

Killed us again tonight. Loss to Jacksonville 10-8 after beating them by 10 last night.
I understand trying to get young guys playing time, working on certain things, and possibly sacrificing a midweek game early in the year…but damn.
Should be able to do all that and still beat teams like USF and Jacksonville. 0-2 on Wednesdays. And even worse - both losses were at home.

And both losses were the second game of the week, with pitchers that you won't see play a weekend game all year. Most teams won't play 2 midweek games all year, we're doing it the first few weeks of the year for some reason. Hopefully this helps out come tournament time but I don't get it, college teams aren't built to play 5 games a week.

Big series against scUM this weekend, I hope taking the loss on Weds, due to pitching moves and performance, allows the Gators to sweep the Canes.

Game 1 belongs to the Gators 10-4. Fell behind early in the game but our offense helped pull away. There were several innings where UM got runners on base and we pitched ourselves out of trouble - good to see.
Game 2 tomorrow and a chance to take the series.

Welp…different story in Game 2.
The pitching staff has a lot to figure out.
Rubber match tomorrow.

Off to another fast start today, hopefully we can keep it up today and don’t give up 13 unanswered.

Well, they tried to let the Canes back in it but had an explosive 8th ended by a walk off homer to run rule 'em. Great ending to the series. Definitely need to figure out the bullpen real quick or no lead is safe.

Until they figure out the middle relief issue, it will be a roller coaster season. Shame, other than that I believe this is a team capable of winning it all.

Hopefully they get it figured out sooner rather than later. It would suck to squander an offense like this one.

Had to rely on the offense again last night to make up for the inept bullpen. Pulled out a victory though.

I am confident the Scully will figure it out. He may have to find a starter to move to bull pen?

Got that mid-week sweep, along with an 8 inning shutout in game 2 of a mid-week series
. And a walk off-mercy-grand slam, from our weekend starting pitcher. Pretty crazy game.

Came out flat yesterday, but pitching kept us in it. Came out hot today and took it down in a shortened game, they definitely helped out with a few errors but we capitalized. Gotta get the sweep tomorrow, one more warm up game and then SEC play starts. Thankfully we start with Bama, which doesn’t appear to pose too much of threat.

Pretty impressive so far offensively, been keeping the runs down defensively lately but that’s still the concern going into SEC play. Definitely excited about the season, ready to see what this team can do.
