I think this is possible, as well. You have to think Steele is getting close to retirement. Bringing him in allows him to finish at Alabama and for Alabama it means we get someone who knows the system and how things work under Saban. Then, once Pruitt is cleared whenever that happens, Steele could retire or be something like Associate Head Coach and a position coach, with Pruitt as DC.

Maybe that’s all wishful thinking, but it at least seems plausible.

Scott Payton alluded to "conditions" that Saban has put on both coordinator positions that impacted who took these jobs. Could a condition be that Pruitt takes the job later? We don't know yet.
