This is how I think we went off the rails:
1. Television =
2. Commercials for neat stuff we really wanted =
3. "We really NEED this stuff" =
4. Wife goes to work =
5. Latchkey kids =
6. Growing parental guilt =
7. Indulging the children to ease guilt =
8. Spoiled little snots who become the "entitled"
The good kids are most likely the ones who were raised by parents who put their children above accumulating stuff, especially the mothers who embraced the toughest, most important career a woman can have. Okay, men can raise children too, but, imo, women are made for it, and generally better at it.
