Maybe he is just trying to prove that he is not an "interim" guy trying to carry on Leach's system, and he is now the man in charge.

Reason would dictate probably a bit of both. I don't think he has any real care to run an air raid offense, most defensive coaches don't.

If the new OC is going to be hired and he would need to let him do the hiring of the offensive staff. That would make sense. Most OC would want his own coaches that would fit his schemes.
