Or he had an impulse to stop her from backing into him because she could have fallen, then checked himself when he realized where his hand was.

Or her phone had been falling out of her pocket all night and he was positioning himself to grab it.

Whatever was going on, his hand wasn't in a "grab arse" shape and why would he grab where her phone was, anyway?
