I agree in the sense it was always Murray's. Message board fans only pointed to GDay but I had a buddy that worked for the team at the time and I got to attend some practices and everyone in the building was in agreeance that Murary was always head.
What I meant was that the prior year starter had left and we didn't have anyone with good game experience we could even plop in there by default. They were also both teh same class so seniority was out the window as well. On paper it was a true tossup in that you couldn't point to either with a valid reason why they should get the nod. The fact that murray was alwasy in the lead doesn't invalidate that it was a wide slap open race during spring and summer IMO

Lol
If one is always in the lead, then it isn't a race. Agree to disagree, man.
If you are looking for a discussion on QB battles, both guys have to get a shot with the first team offense in drills. Then scrimmages.
That was Eason/Lambert.
Fromm/Fields.
Newman/JT
It has been a QB battle 2 out of the last 3 seasons. 2020, everyone got a greater shot than Stetson to win the job until the Arkansas game.
2021 everyone got a greater shot than Stetson except Brock (who got an equal shot as reps with ones were evenly distributed between 3rd and 4th QBs).
