Yes and no. Without football you wouldn't have a clue who Mike Leach is.
Of course it wasn't his entire life, but football was a huge part of it, teaching life lessons and developing young men in the spirit of competition, teamwork, and the pursuit of excellence, all while being the pride of universities and states.
What made Leach so incredible was that despite the seriousness of all that, the guy never took himself too seriously and had a genuine wit, intellectual curiosity, and sense of humor that was un-matched by any of his peers.
