Heupel and Kiffin are better game day coaches than Kirby and it’s not close.
Even if that were true, Kirby is so much better in all the aspects outside of game day (recruiting, player development, week long game prep, hiring good assistants) that it wouldn't matter.
Gameday coaching decisions is one of the most overrated parts of being a college coach. Many of the best coaches in college history were not gameday experts. Bobby Bowden, Bear Bryant, Knute Rockne, Tom Osbourne, Bud Wilkinson... all of these guys made their teams great with actions outside of gameday.
The best coach who was primarily a game day coach was probably Steve Spurrier. All time coaches weren't know for schemes, game-day decisions or x's and o's. They were known for recruiting, finding diamond in the rough players, developing great game plans before gameday, hiring quality assistants, developing innovative offensive and defensive strategies in the off season, finding great matchups... things like that. Not calling a good play on 3rd and 7.
Guys known for that are good coordinators, not head coaches.
